I've joined the group art show Decon/Recon at UFORGE Gallery, which will be on view in April. UFORGE is a great gallery in Jamaica Plain that works to promote new artists through their group assignment shows. There's no jury, so it's a first come, first serve process that makes it easier to get into the gallery scene. As they say in their mission, it was founded with "the belief that everyone has the right to show their creativity." You just have to submit an artwork based on the designated month's theme (a perfect match for me!).
I was part of their Grayscale show last year and really enjoyed the experience. The opening is always on the first Thursday of the month to coincide with JP's First Thursday Art Stroll. It's become really popular and makes for a fun and busy evening.
I'm working on a new photo piece specifically for this show, so stay tuned for more about that process and for details on the opening reception!
NY state of mind
Chris planned a long weekend trip to New York as a surprise, so it easily became the photo theme for last week. It's not hard to find good shots in the city, but I tried to aim for things that were specific to NYC. I probably take a lot of these same photos every time we visit, but some are too iconic to resist.
I also included one more photo than normal, since I loved seeing Boston listed on the old-fashioned boards at Penn Station. I like to visit, but I was happy to head home.
Movin' on up
The second installment of my project was all about stairs: in any form, inside or out, clinging to buildings or ones I travel everyday. It was a bit more of a challenge to find interesting subjects, and I went out in search of these photos more than I did with the first theme, which took some work between the snow and cold.
Enjoy this group, and you can see my entire current Instagram feed (where the project photos are posted as I go) on the bottom of the About page.
It begins!
With the launch of the new site, I decided I need a regular source of motivation for new photos to add. So I'm giving myself bi-weekly assignment themes and will post the results here. Hopefully I can keep up with that pace, it might become monthly, but a new post every two weeks is the goal!
It's the middle of winter and the gloom is starting to set in. So with that in mind, I went out in search of yellow things to brighten it up.
